Teams

Water Polo

While water polo is extremely popular in Southern California, most who join the team at La Quinta have never played the sport before. Both the boys and girls teams have over 30 members each and can field 3 levels. Developing players learn all the basics of the sport, including: swimming, treading, ball handling, scoring, offenses, defenses, and tactics. The boy's team plays water polo in the fall, while the girls play in the winter. Most water polo players also participate in the swim team later in the spring.

Swimming

La Quinta welcomes swimmers of all levels, from beginners to championship athletes with prior experience building together a unique, close knit team with over 100 members. Novices begin in the summer learning all competitive swimming strokes and techniques, while other experienced athletes join from nearby club programs such as NOVA, Riptide, Goldenwest, Splash, and JCC Waves.

Practice Times

Morning Practice Group

Zero Period

6:00am - 7:30am

Afternoon Practice Group

6th Period

2:00pm - 4:00pm

During the school year, practices are generally run in two groups. By offering zero and sixth period Swimming - PE classes, students at La Quinta are able to have parts of their practice during school time, complete their High School PE requirements, and ultimately get home earlier and have more time for rest and school work.

La Quinta offers a comprehensive summer sports program for aquatics. Freshmen and those who are new to the sports are especially encouraged to participate, as this is the time that all basic skills are taught. Returners focus on strength, conditioning, and mastering fundamental techniques.

Tryouts

Tryouts are held each year before the start of the sports season. While no experience is necessary, we look for dedicated athletes who are willing to work hard and be committed to the program for 4 years. Check the events page and keep in contact with the coaches for tryout dates and times.

Besides practices during the season, La Quinta practices year round with zero and sixth period PE Swimming class, as well as off season training. If you are interested in taking the class, please sign up on the form here:

All athletes must complete the school clearance process before the start of their season. Please click HERE for more details.
